Oligopeptide-34 is a synthetic peptide consisting of 13 amino acids, including arginine, aspartic acid, isoleucine, glutamine, leucine, serine, threonine, and tryptophan. It is used in cosmetics for its skin-brightening, whitening, and spot-fading effects. This peptide works by reducing melanin synthesis and tyrosinase activity in melanocytes, which are the cells responsible for producing melanin. Additionally, it decreases the transfer of melanosomes, which are the packages of melanin pigment, to new keratinocytes, the cells of the epidermis. Oligopeptide-34 can significantly reduce melanin production and tyrosinase enzyme activity, making it an effective ingredient for treating hyperpigmentation and evening out skin tone. It is considered a safe and effective alternative to hydroquinone for skin whitening.
