Staphylococcus aureus transpeptidase sortase A (SrtA) reacts with its own substrate Bacterial Sortase Substrate III, Abz/DNP, cleaving it and catalyzing the formation of amide bond between threonine carboxyl group and the amino group of cell wall crossbridges.
